Multi-Session Web Acceleration (MSA)

This is a unique and patent pending technology developed by XRoads Networks over the course of the past four years. This technology enables you to effectively bind two diverse ISP links together to significantly improve web-based download speeds and reduce traffic congestion.

Data Segmentation

Unlike other solutions on the market which perform data object modification and packet forwarding, the EdgeXOS platform utilizes an advanced proxy service which is able to examine content on-the-fly and determine whether it is best to perform session-balancing or bonding.

The MSA controller has the following components:

  • Content Identifier

  • To minimize route processor utilization and to improve overall performance this module ensures that only the remote data which can be accelerated is sent through the proxy service.
  • Content is examined based on:
    • Src/Dst Network or URL
    • Port Number / Protocol Type
    • Data String Content
  • Proxy Service (an advanced version of our previous web proxy module)

    • This module is the core of the controller and provides the ability to proxy connections, instead of forwarding modified data objects, which provides better control over the communication sessions and provides increased control over the segmentation process.
  • Bonding Algorithm (part of the proxy service)

    • This module is used to determine which traffic is bonded and which is balanced. When bonding is not selected, there is no requirement for additional handling, and the inbound client connections are simply balanced across the available WAN links using the previously developed proxy balancing algorithm.
  • Segmentation Module (part of the proxy service)

    • The segmentation module is utilized to obtain information regarding the data from the remote server and to request partial elements of the remote data from the server with each part being obtained via a separate session request across a different broadband connection.

The following is a diagram demonstrating the functionality of this technology:

If bonding is selected, the MSA module will attempt to download the remote data file across each of the available ISP links. When fully supported, the download speeds for these files can much faster. Depending on the speed of your secondary WAN links, customers have realized up to 2100% faster download speeds.

Faster Web Based Downloads
The above is an example of how download speeds can be dramatically improved for a customer after combining their existing ISP service with a secondary link using the EdgeXOS appliance.
